Here I am, 34 weeks along…..
My October 18 due date is approaching quickly and I’m about 10 light years away from being ready. I’m crossing my legs; this baby shall not be expelled until after the 18th!
It takes forever to get a home ready for a baby when you don’t have furniture to begin with. It’s hard to find things you like for a decent price that can be delivered this side of Christmas. Then, when they do deliver, they can’t give you an ETA so you have to wait all day, worst-case scenario, for them to arrive. Today I’m waiting for IKEA’s Leksvik nursery furniture (anytime between 8-5pm!) and two wardrobes. Grr! Don’t they know people have lives filled with pregnancy yoga and baby shopping!
I had a scan last Friday and saw the midwife on the same day. The baby is 2.5 kg (!) and of perfectly normal size. I’m doing very well too, neither diabetic or anemic. The scan didn’t reveal whether or not I have a fibroid on the back uterine wall (there was a fat baby in the way!) so I will meet with consultant this week to decide on a course of action. But I’m not too concerned about that. I’m more worried about this babe arriving early. Stay put please!

Hey Mia, I hope you hold your head above water girl.
About the waiting thing, we have that here in Holland as well, but …
Sometimes you could try to schedule more deliveries on 1 day, which I did last time. At least that would save you a lot of ‘waiting days’.
Here also some companies you can call just before the delivery day to hear an estimate time for the delivery, which I think all companies should have.
And in some other cases they will tell you that they either deliver in the morning or afternoon.
I think it’s a total waste of time to have people wait all day for a delivery.

Hey Catzel, yes such a hassle about deliveries. It’s hard to schedule more than one delivery at a time as different companies have different delivery dates and times. Today both deliveries were done by 1pm, so not bad! The UK is horrible for furniture deliveries; waiting 8 weeks is common!
Now I’m off to my third antenatal class to learn more about labour… With all the reading and learning I’m doing I should be able to have the baby blindfolded!

8 weeks :S That’s really a long time… Do they also have a reason for such long waiting periods? Our baby room takes 4 weeks from ordering to delivery, which I already think is long
Antenatal? Is that just learning or also exercises? You don’t want to get your baby blindfolded ;p cause you want to see it asap when it’s born.
I hope you get it all organized before the baby comes, like I hope I do as well

No I’m not sure why the delivery times are so long. I’m tempted to blame it on British general inefficiency…
The antenatal classes are purely theoretical. I get some practical exercise in my yoga classes. And by observing dogs’ panting techniques when out and about!

I thought English were more efficient then we are… guess not.
So what exactly do you learn in those classes then? Everything about labour? Or also about pregnancy and after delivery and stuff?

Oh no, it’s so much harder to get things done here. For example, it took us a couple of weeks just to get our broadband sorted. The customer service is generally lousy here.
I’m taking antenatal classes through a private company that hires midwifes to lead the classes. We learn all about labour, but also about what comes thereafter. We learn about baby care up until three months of age. Hopefully this will help us prepare for the delivery as well as the life thereafter….
